6. Sleep disturbances
Sleep problems, including difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, have been reported by some people taking atorvastatin. Such disturbances may be mild but can affect overall quality of life if persistent.
Addressing sleep hygiene, such as maintaining a consistent bedtime routine and limiting caffeine intake, may help. If sleep issues continue, discuss them with your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
7. Skin reactions
Skin-related side effects from atorvastatin are relatively uncommon but can include rash, itching, or redness. These reactions may be mild or, in rare cases, more severe.
Any new skin changes should be monitored closely. If a rash is widespread, accompanied by swelling, or causes discomfort, seek medical advice promptly to assess for allergic reactions or other concerns.
8. Serious muscle damage
While most muscle symptoms are mild, a rare but serious side effect is rhabdomyolysis, a condition involving severe muscle breakdown. Signs include intense muscle pain, weakness (especially in large muscle groups like hips or shoulders), dark-colored urine, and extreme fatigue.
This condition can lead to kidney damage and requires immediate medical attention. Patients experiencing these symptoms should contact their doctor or emergency services without delay.
