3. Headache and cold-like symptoms
Some people taking atorvastatin experience headaches ranging from mild to moderate intensity. These headaches may result from the body’s adjustment to the medication or minor changes in blood vessel function.
Alongside headaches, cold-like symptoms such as nasal congestion, sore throat, or runny nose have been reported. These are generally mild and temporary but can be bothersome. If symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to rule out other causes.
4. Fatigue and sleep disturbances
Feeling unusually tired or experiencing sleep difficulties can occur with atorvastatin. Fatigue may manifest as a general lack of energy or increased tiredness despite adequate rest. Sleep disturbances include trouble falling asleep or staying asleep through the night.
While these symptoms are less common, they can affect daily functioning. Consider discussing any new or worsening fatigue or insomnia with your healthcare provider, who may evaluate other contributing factors or reassess your treatment plan.
5. Blood sugar elevation
Atorvastatin has been associated with small increases in blood glucose levels in some individuals, which can slightly raise the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, especially in those already predisposed.
This effect is usually mild, but people with existing prediabetes or diabetes should monitor their blood sugar closely. Regular blood glucose testing during atorvastatin therapy helps detect any significant changes early so that adjustments can be made if necessary.
